So you are your own boss now. Sounds flexible and exciting! No more answering to authority or sneaking to your desk after arriving late to the office or hiding out in your cubical for eight hours. Sounds like a vacation to me! It’s an interesting adventure you have embarked on and will take some adjusting (if you’ve ever worked under someone) and takes an eager, diligent mindset to work for yourself.
YOU are the authority now, and when beginning your healthy plunge into entrepreneurialism, you have to respect yourself and your time. Having structure does not mean you are compromising freedom. Treat your start-up business like a business. Open your doors (metaphorically or physically) at a certain time of day, and turn over the “closed” sign when throw in the towel. I know this is easier said than done. My point is you don’t want to be in overwhelmed and stressed out. Getting structures in place will help. If you notice that you are doing something every day over and over again ask yourself what automations can you implement to make the process easier.
Distractions run rampant when you are working from the ground up, whether you are at home, a Starbucks, or a small rented office.
Prioritizing your schedule at the beginning of the week will help you stay focused daily. Scheduling you day on a planner and having an online scheduler will save you time and doubling booking yourself.
Make short goals, list out one to three daily goals. Label the first one that is most important at the top of the list. Do not move on to the next goal this will help you complete the task that you start without being distracted by things that are not on your to do list.
Take Action daily to move you forward toward your quarterly and annual goals. Remember to keep moving even if there is fear or head chatter that will keep you in the very same place that you want to move out of.
Reflect on the time you spend diligently working toward your future business and ask yourself “would YOU hire YOU?” This works twofold. As your own boss, make sure you incorporate break/vacation time. You deserve that 8am Yoga class or that 5-day trip to hell anywhere in the world. Don’t run yourself ragged. You need to stay healthy or your business will surely get sick. Eat healthy meals daily and remember to incorporate self-care into your daily routine. Taking walks outdoor, meditating, and reading are just a few tips to get you started. Believe me it worth it to take the time to enjoy life.
